Happy Monday, friends!
As the 2016 wedding season has officially begun, I can’t help but sit back and think about how thankful I am to have the clients that I do. Last year was a big exploration year for me when it comes to my business, and this year I’ve made a more concerted effort to make sure that I am booking couples who love my style AND my personality. Because, let’s face it guys, we can’t be the perfect fit for everyone who walks through our door!
In my opinion, finding the best fit in your photographer is one of the most important decisions that you’ll have to make when it comes to your vendors. Sure, you want to make sure that your cake is delicious, your dress fits you like a glove and that your DJ starts the party, but what a lot of brides don’t realize is that your photographer is, literally, by your side the entire day. Did you get that? Like, all day. That being said. it’s best to make sure that you at least get along with whoever you are hiring!
So, how do you find the right fit? There are two very important factors to consider before saying “I do” to your wedding photographer. Keep reading.
First and foremost, make sure that you like their artistic style. This is crucial, ladies. Before you even think about contacting a photographer, take a look at their blog and Facebook page. Does their style align with yours? Do you like the way that their photos are edited? What about their posing? Wedding photographers come in many different forms. Some shoot with a very moody and dramatic eye, while others product photos with a more airy and romantic feel. Seasoned professionals shoot with a consistent style, so if you’re, for example, into a heavier, moody style, don’t contact a photographer who shoots with a light and airy feel and expect her to change. She won’t, and you’ll most likely end up disappointed with the end product. On the flip side, if you do find a style that you love, and the photographer to match, you can feel confident that you will end up loving your photos.
Secondly, look for a photographer whose personality compliments yours. As I mentioned previously, your photographer will literally be by your side all day. You don’t want to look back on your wedding day and remember a photographer who drove you nuts! Always request an initial consultation with any photographer you are thinking about hiring. Whether you meet in person or talk over the phone, you should be able to get a sense pretty quickly for who they are and what they would be like on your big day. Using myself as an example, I’ll be straight up and admit that I’m not the most professional of all photographers. You probably won’t see me arriving to your venue in a blazer and pencil skirt. What you will see, however, is me laughing (sometimes, until I cry) with your mom, becoming friends with your bridesmaids and sharing a sneak peek of the back of my camera with the groomsmen.
I know that I’m not for everyone, but the good news is that I don’t need to be! The couples who book me love my style AND personality. And because we’re a good match, we all win. They get the photos they’ve dreamed of, along with the wedding day experience they hoped for, and I get to work with couples who make me feel so thankful everyday.
So, my advice for you is to be selective and to remember that your photographer should be someone whose style and personality match yours. If you do that, you’ll be off to a great start.
Cheers!
